The Best Fall 2026 Colors for Your Color Type

August 13, 2026 By: Nada Manleycomment

Fall 2026 may have one of my favorite color palettes in years.

We have soft mauves, terracotta, cinnamon, burgundy, burnt olive, aquatic greens, chartreuse, fuchsia, royal purple, maritime blue, cream, toffee, gray and deep ocean blues. There are grounded neutrals, beautiful earthy shades and some surprisingly vivid brights.

In other words: there really is something for everybody.

But knowing which colors are trending is only half the equation.

The other question is:

Which of those colors are best for YOU?

I don’t think color analysis should restrict your wardrobe. I think it should focus it.

When you walk into a store, there are hundreds or thousands of things competing for your attention. Color can become your first filter. Before you know the silhouette, size, fabric or fit, you already see the color.

Instead of thinking, I can’t wear that color, start asking:

Does this color love me back?

That shift is at the heart of the video.

First: Understand Your Color Type

SOFT

Soft coloring is generally:

  • Medium
  • Muted
  • Neutral
  • Lower contrast

Think of colors with a little gray mixed into them.

Jennifer Aniston is a good example of Soft coloring.

CLEAR

Clear is essentially the opposite of Soft.

Clear coloring is:

  • Bright
  • Vivid
  • High contrast
  • Saturated

Someone with fair skin, bright eyes and naturally dark hair may have Clear coloring. Angelina Jolie with her natural dark hair is a good example.

FRESH

Fresh sits somewhere between Soft and Clear.

The coloring is:

  • Medium
  • Bright
  • Balanced
  • Relatively neutral

Fresh colors are also some of the most universally wearable shades, making the Fresh palette a useful secondary palette for many women.

DEEP

Deep coloring generally includes:

  • Darker hair
  • Darker eyes
  • Medium-to-dark overall coloring
  • Medium contrast

Deep colors look as though they have a little black added to them.

Think richer reds, deeper greens, dark blues and saturated jewel tones.

LIGHT

Light is the opposite of Deep.

You’ll generally see:

  • Light hair
  • Light skin
  • Light eyes
  • Low-to-medium contrast

Light colors look as though a little white has been added to them.

Reese Witherspoon and Michelle Pfeiffer are good examples.

WARM

Warm coloring may include:

  • Red or strawberry-blonde hair
  • Golden blonde
  • Warm brunette hair
  • Golden or warm undertones
  • Warm eyes

Warm palettes lean into earthy, spicy, golden and sun-kissed colors.

COOL

Cool coloring is the opposite.

Cool palettes favor:

  • Pinks
  • Purples
  • Blues
  • Cool reds
  • Grays
  • Silver

And many women find that their coloring becomes cooler as their hair changes with age.

The video goes through these distinctions in detail, including the difference between Soft/Clear, Deep/Light and Warm/Cool.

SOFT: Your Best Fall 2026 Colors

Look for:

  • Foxglove
  • Muted clay
  • Soft Neptune green
  • Muted burnt olive
  • Soft red mahogany
  • Toffee
  • Underworld gray
  • Dusty plum
  • Rose taupe
  • Muted teal
  • Cocoa
  • Soft burgundy

Your best neutrals:

Light: off-white, cream
Medium: medium brown, medium blue, medium gray, medium olive
Dark: dark brown, navy, charcoal, burgundy

Black can often feel unnecessarily harsh on Soft coloring.

Try these combinations:

  • Mauve + gray
  • Muted teal + cocoa
  • Soft olive + dusty rose
  • Muted clay + cream
  • Soft burgundy + rose taupe
  • Dusty plum + mushroom
  • Blue-gray + mauve
  • Toffee + muted sea green
  • Soft navy + smoky pink
  • Red mahogany + softened blush

Rather than fuchsia + black, try raspberry + charcoal.

Instead of royal purple + white, try muted plum + oyster.

Colors to modify:

If Festival Fuchsia feels overpowering, try:

  • Muted raspberry
  • Soft berry
  • Dusty orchid
  • Wine

Instead of bright chartreuse:

  • Soft citron
  • Lichen
  • Muted yellow-green
  • Soft avocado

Instead of a very bright blue:

  • Soft cornflower
  • Muted marine
  • Blue-gray
  • Dusty denim

Instead of royal purple:

  • Smoky plum
  • Muted grape
  • Heathered violet
  • Soft aubergine

Accessories

Look for softer finishes:

  • Suede
  • Soft leather
  • Brushed finishes
  • Antique metallics
  • Pewter
  • Muted gold

Good accessory colors include camel, taupe, mushroom, cognac, soft burgundy, muted olive, dusty teal, rose taupe and soft plum.

The Soft recommendations—including the lower-contrast pairings and modified versions of brighter trend colors—appear throughout this section of the video.

FRESH: Your Best Fall 2026 Colors

Fresh colors live in that very wearable medium + bright range.

Look for:

  • Neptune green
  • All Aboard blue
  • Green Envy
  • Medium burnt olive
  • Clean foxglove
  • Medium red
  • Fresh berry
  • Medium violet
  • Egret
  • Candy ginger
  • Toffee
  • Clear medium gray

The key is choosing a version that isn’t extremely pale, dark, warm, cool or muted.

Try these combinations:

  • Neptune green + toffee
  • All Aboard blue + camel
  • Fresh green + navy
  • Medium violet + soft white
  • Clean pink + charcoal
  • Medium red + denim blue
  • Fresh teal + burgundy
  • Green Envy + warm navy
  • Medium olive + cream
  • Raspberry + cocoa

Accessories

Consider:

  • Medium cognac
  • Clean burgundy
  • Medium teal
  • Maritime blue
  • Clear rose
  • Medium violet
  • Fresh green
  • Navy
  • Mixed metallics

Because Fresh contains so many middle-of-the-road colors, it can also be a wonderful place to start if you’re experimenting outside your primary palette.

CLEAR: Your Best Fall 2026 Colors

Clear ladies get some of the most exciting colors of Fall 2026.

Look for:

  • Festival fuchsia
  • Chartreuse
  • All Aboard blue
  • Green Envy
  • Royal purple
  • True red
  • Bright violet
  • Clear teal
  • Bright emerald
  • Poseidon
  • Egret
  • Black
  • Very dark navy

Try these combinations:

  • Red + royal purple
  • Fuchsia + burgundy
  • All Aboard blue + true red
  • Chartreuse + black
  • Chartreuse + deep navy
  • Bright green + cobalt
  • Fuchsia + emerald
  • Purple + bright pink
  • Maritime blue + crisp white
  • Clear teal + red

You certainly don’t have to dress head-to-toe in brights. A Clear can use vivid color as an accent against a neutral outfit.

Instead of muted clay:

  • Brighter rust
  • Tomato coral
  • Paprika

Instead of pale toffee:

  • Arabian spice
  • Rich cognac
  • Clear cinnamon
  • Copper

Instead of muted foxglove:

  • Clear orchid
  • Bright rose
  • Cool pink
  • Raspberry
  • Festival fuchsia

Instead of muted olive:

  • Clear olive
  • Bright moss
  • Emerald olive
  • Chartreuse

Accessories

Shine works beautifully on Clears.

Look for:

  • Patent leather
  • Polished metals
  • Shiny silver
  • Shiny gold
  • Crisp prints
  • Strong contrast

Colorful accessories can also be spectacular: red, fuchsia, purple, bright blue, green or high-shine burgundy.

Even the deep espresso brown trending this fall can become an alternative to black—especially in patent leather.

WARM: Your Best Fall 2026 Colors

Fall is naturally friendly to Warm coloring because so many of the season’s colors are earthy, rich, spicy and golden.

Look for:

  • Muted clay
  • Arabian spice
  • Burnt olive
  • Green Envy
  • Acacia
  • Red mahogany
  • Candy ginger
  • Toffee
  • Egret
  • Warm burgundy
  • Cinnamon
  • Cognac
  • Terracotta
  • Moss
  • Warm chartreuse

Try these combinations:

  • Muted clay + burnt olive
  • Acacia + chocolate
  • Arabian spice + egret
  • Red mahogany + candy ginger
  • Cognac + maritime blue
  • Warm teal + camel
  • Terracotta + moss
  • Cinnamon + peacock blue
  • Golden chartreuse + burgundy
  • Toffee + warm coral

What about blues and purples?

Warm doesn’t mean eliminating blue and purple.

Try:

  • Peacock rather than icy blue-violet
  • Petrol blue rather than icy cobalt
  • Warm teal rather than cool turquoise
  • Olive rather than blue-green pine

For pink:

  • Coral pink
  • Salmon
  • Warm rose
  • Geranium
  • Terracotta pink
  • Warm raspberry

For purple:

  • Maroon
  • Aubergine
  • Red-violet
  • Warm plum
  • Raisin
  • Mulberry
  • Browned grape

Accessories

Think:

  • Rust brown
  • Cognac
  • Chocolate
  • Navy
  • Cream
  • Ivory
  • Burgundy
  • Olive

And warm metals:

  • Antique brass
  • Gold
  • Copper

A cognac bag, oxblood loafer, olive suede shoe, gold statement earring or warm tortoiseshell frame would all work beautifully.

COOL: Your Best Fall 2026 Colors

Fall 2026 also gives Cool coloring plenty to work with.

Look for:

  • Foxglove
  • Festival fuchsia
  • Royal purple
  • Cool blues
  • Poseidon
  • Underworld gray
  • Cool Neptune green
  • Blue-based burgundy
  • Raspberry
  • Cranberry
  • Aubergine
  • Blue-red
  • Charcoal
  • Cool white

Try these combinations:

  • Foxglove + charcoal
  • Fuchsia + burgundy
  • Royal purple + blue-red
  • All Aboard blue + cool gray
  • Poseidon + icy pink
  • Mauve + navy
  • Blue teal + plum
  • Cranberry + charcoal
  • Violet + silver-gray
  • Berry + cool white

Colors to modify

Instead of Muted Clay:

  • Rose brown
  • Mauve
  • Taupe
  • Muted berry

Instead of Arabian spice:

  • Cool cocoa
  • Taupe
  • Cool espresso
  • Rosewood
  • Cool mahogany

Instead of warm yellow-greens:

  • Cool citron
  • Acid green
  • Blue-green

And Cool women do not necessarily have to eliminate brown.

Choose cooler browns such as:

  • Taupe brown
  • Espresso
  • Rosewood
  • Purple-brown
  • Pink-brown
  • Gray-brown

Accessories

Choose:

  • Silver
  • Pewter
  • White metals
  • Gunmetal

Great accessory colors include gray, silver, white, navy, burgundy, black, berries, blue-reds, purples and pinks.

Think burgundy bag, purple shoe, silver belt, berry scarf, navy bag or pewter loafer.

DEEP: Your Best Fall 2026 Colors

Fall is a particularly good season for Deep coloring because richness comes back into the palette.

Look for:

  • Red mahogany
  • Arabian spice
  • Burnt olive
  • Poseidon
  • Royal purple
  • Deep Festival Fuchsia
  • Oxblood
  • Aubergine
  • Espresso
  • Chocolate
  • Deep teal
  • Forest green
  • Burgundy
  • Dark maritime blue

Try these combinations:

  • Red mahogany + deep teal
  • Burgundy + royal purple
  • Poseidon + fuchsia
  • Burnt olive + aubergine
  • Chocolate + clear red
  • Espresso + chartreuse
  • Deep teal + cinnamon
  • Oxblood + navy
  • Forest green + plum
  • Mahogany + cream

Deep does not mean you have to wear dark colors from head to toe.

The key is saturation and intensity.

Colors to watch

Foxglove and mauve may become too washed out.

Neptune green can work if it isn’t too pale or muted.

All Aboard blue can work beautifully—just avoid versions that turn into baby blue.

Chartreuse and Acacia can also work if they’re bright or rich enough.

Accessories

Deep coloring has tremendous versatility.

Dark neutrals:

  • Black
  • Chocolate
  • Charcoal
  • Navy

Light neutrals:

  • Ivory
  • Cream

Medium neutrals:

  • Olive
  • Medium blue
  • Cognac

And beautiful accessory colors include:

  • Burgundy
  • Oxblood
  • Aubergine
  • Forest green
  • Deep teal
  • Poseidon
  • Dark purple
  • Gunmetal
  • Rich gold

The video also specifically mentions burgundy patent leather, chocolate bags and cognac as accessory possibilities for a Deep.

LIGHT: Your Best Fall 2026 Colors

Fall doesn’t always give Light color types a lot of options.

Fall 2026 is different.

Look for:

  • Foxglove
  • Egret
  • Candy ginger
  • Light Neptune green
  • Pale maritime blue
  • Bubblegum pink
  • Soft lavender
  • Light toffee
  • Sea green
  • Pale citron
  • Light camel
  • Soft gray

Neutrals

Light neutrals:

  • White
  • Cream

Medium neutrals:

  • Camel
  • Medium blue
  • Medium olive

Dark neutrals:

  • Navy
  • Charcoal
  • Chocolate

Some Light women can also wear black, although it may not be their easiest neutral.

Try these combinations:

  • Foxglove + egret
  • Sea green + light camel
  • Pale blue + light toffee
  • Bubblegum pink + soft gray
  • Lavender + warm cream
  • Light citron + pale olive
  • Candy ginger + powder blue
  • Pale mauve + light navy
  • Soft turquoise + blush
  • Egret + red

One easy trick for making a Light palette feel more autumnal is pairing a pretty light color with one of your flattering darker neutrals.

You can also make an outfit feel like fall through texture rather than darkness: suede, knitwear, plaid, layering and fall footwear all create seasonal richness without requiring an all-dark palette.

Colors to modify

Instead of red mahogany:

  • Rosewood
  • Light berry
  • Soft cranberry
  • Muted red

Instead of Arabian spice:

  • Light cinnamon
  • Soft camel
  • Ginger
  • Cognac

Instead of dark burnt olive:

  • Medium olive
  • Light olive
  • Sage
  • Celery
  • Soft moss

Instead of Festival Fuchsia:

  • Bubblegum pink
  • Clear rose
  • Light raspberry
  • Orchid

Accessories

Take your cue from your naturally lighter coloring.

Excellent neutrals include:

  • Sand
  • Off-white
  • Cream
  • Light camel
  • Light taupe
  • Mushroom

And for some color:

  • Blush
  • Light cognac
  • Soft mauve
  • Sea green
  • Powder blue
  • Light gray
  • Soft berry

Pearl and pearly finishes are especially beautiful.

For metallics, choose lighter finishes:

  • Light silver
  • Pale gold
  • Light rose gold
  • Satin metallics

The goal is lighter metal rather than heavy, dark gunmetal.

What If You LOVE a Color That Doesn’t Love You Back?

You don’t have to completely eliminate it.

1. Move it away from your face

Blush next to my face is awful.
But away from my face it’s a little easier to wear.

Try the color in:

  • Pants
  • Skirts
  • Shoes
  • Belts

The farther it is from your face, the less impact it has on your complexion.

2. Find your version of it

Maybe blush pink isn’t right, but magenta is.

Maybe chartreuse overwhelms you, but muted citron works.

Maybe pale blue washes you out, but Poseidon is spectacular.

Don’t give up on the entire color family just because one version doesn’t work.

3. Put one of your BEST colors near your face

Screenshot

Use:

  • A turtleneck
  • Jacket
  • Scarf
  • Jewelry
  • Makeup

to bring a flattering shade into the area closest to your face.

4. Sneak it into a print

Look for a print where roughly 70–80% of the dominant color is flattering to you and the more difficult color appears only as a secondary accent.

You can still enjoy it without allowing it to dominate the outfit.

The Bottom Line

Color is supposed to be fun.

Your color palette isn’t there to tell you what you can’t wear. It’s there to help you recognize the enormous number of colors that make you look and feel your best.

And Fall 2026 is an especially good season to experiment because we have everything from soft mauves and creamy neutrals to chocolate, burgundy, olive, fuchsia, vivid blues and purples.

So instead of asking:

“Can I wear this color?”

Try asking:

“What version of this color loves me back?”
