Let’s be honest: color can feel intimidating, especially if you’ve been wearing neutrals for years. But it doesn’t have to be! Whether you’re team color, team neutral, or a happy mix of both (like me!), I’m here to show you how to wear color in 2025 and expand your style options. Plus, these color “trends” may already be hanging in your closet!

General Color Tips
First, this isn’t about abandoning your color analysis or palette. I’m still team “wear the colors that flatter you”—but once you have those figured out, the magic is in how you wear them. The strategies I’m sharing work no matter your season or color category. Use them to bring your colors to life.
And if you don’t know your color palette yet, don’t worry. There’s no better time than now to start experimenting. Look for a couple of shades you’re drawn to from this season’s trends and start building from there.
Color is Trending

If you’ve been waiting for the “right time” to add more color into your wardrobe, this is it. Color is one of the biggest trends of the year—on its own. We’re seeing everything from sun-kissed brights and citrus tones to icy pastels and rich earthy neutrals like chocolate brown and deep indigo. There’s truly something for everyone.
Start with an Accent

Feeling overwhelmed by the idea of wearing more color? Don’t worry—you don’t need to dive in headfirst. Start with an accent. Pick one color that brings you joy and introduce it through a shoe, a handbag, a piece of jewelry, or even a bold lipstick. It’s amazing what a little pop can do to energize your whole look.
You can also go even smaller—a printed scarf, a cocktail ring, or a pair of earrings with a touch of your accent color. Baby steps are totally valid here.
Modern Pairings to Try
This season is all about interesting, expressive color combinations. You’ll still see the classic color-and-neutral pairings, but we’re also moving into more unexpected territory.
Soft + Bold

One of my favorite combos is mixing a soft pastel with a bold color. Try powder blue with a citrus orange, or blush pink with deep emerald green. It’s balanced, unexpected, and fresh.
Earthy + Fresh

Pair an earthy tone like olive or terracotta with something light and fresh—like buttercup yellow or lilac. The contrast is rich and dynamic.
Cool + Crisp

Cobalt and white? Lavender and icy gray? These are classic color pairings that feel renewed and modern in 2025.
Retro Inspired

Mustard and navy, mint and chocolate brown, even orange with rich browns—all inspired by the ’60s and ’70s, but updated with modern silhouettes. These combos bring such a fun, nostalgic vibe to your wardrobe.
How to Wear Bright Colors (Without Feeling Like a Traffic Cone)
Brights are bold, beautiful—and yes, sometimes intimidating. My personal favorite? Red. It’s my signature color and the backbone of my wardrobe. But red can also feel tricky to style if you’re not careful.
Here’s how I make it work—and you can too, with any bright shade you love:
Bright + Pastel

Try a vivid color like red with a soft pastel like blush. It’s tonal, elegant, and feels intentional. Reverse the ratio if pastel suits you better—make the bright the accent and the pastel the star.
Bright + Beige

Camel, taupe, or sand add warmth and elegance to bold shades. Red and camel is one of my forever combos—it’s sophisticated and effortless.
Bright + Medium Neutral

Think gray, denim, or chambray. These middle-ground neutrals pair beautifully with most brights, giving you contrast without harshness.
Bright + White

One of the easiest and cleanest ways to wear a bright. A red blouse with white pants is crisp and summer-ready. Add nude heels and pearl accessories for extra polish.
Bright + Olive

Olive is a secret style weapon. It’s earthy and grounding and works with almost every bright—especially red, cobalt, crocus, and coral.
Analogous Colors

Try pairing your bold shade with colors next to it on the color wheel. Red and purple (or red and lavender) is unexpectedly chic and fashion-forward.
Use Brights as a Pop

If a full bright outfit is too much, wear your color as an accessory or accent: shoes, lipstick, glasses, or a red handbag. A pop of bold can completely change the feel of an otherwise neutral outfit.
Bright + Navy

Navy softens brights without washing them out. Red and navy is classic, nautical, and always a good choice.
Bright + Black

Red and black can easily feel dated if not done carefully. The trick? Don’t split it 50/50. Use one as the main color and the other as an accent. And always add a third neutral or some texture to soften the contrast.
Add a Third Neutral

Break up intense combinations by introducing a third neutral. Beige, white, gray, or even denim can help tone things down and make your outfit feel more intentional.
Silhouette Matters
Even the most gorgeous color palette can look dated if your clothes are outdated. That’s why silhouettes are key. Oversized blazers, high-waisted trousers, cropped jackets—these pieces instantly modernize any color pairing.
Keep things sleek and minimal, especially when playing with high-contrast combos like red and black. A red slip dress with neutral shoes and clean lines feels modern and elevated.

I think you can totally wear those if they are bright. I would pair them with a white or black top to bring one of your best colors close to your face. And shiny jewelry. I hope that helps!

I accidentally bought the wrong red pants. They are more of a coral red and I am a clear winter. What color top would you pair with those pants? Your expertise is greatly appreciated as I am lost. Thank you Nada
