We have to stop and look back if we ever want to move forward. Often, we are so quick to move on to the next day and the next challenge and the next outfit, that we don’t take a moment to pause and reflect on what has worked so far – and what hasn’t. That’s why outfit photos are so important. The end of the year is the perfect time to flip back through your outfit photos and pick a few faves. Evaluating our past outfit choices—both the hits and the misses—is essential for developing a personal style that truly feels like you and brings you joy and confidence. In today’s video, I’m recapping some of my favorite outfits, and learning some lessons from the ones that didn’t work.

- Denim Trench Coat Dress
This versatile piece was a favorite from my wardrobe rental service, Confidence in a Closet. It worked as both a trench and a dress, styled effortlessly with mules. Its comfort and adaptability made it a staple in my fall wardrobe. - Flattering Jumpsuit
From Grey Labs, a brand I tried through Confidence in a Closet, this jumpsuit had the perfect mix of sparkle and comfort. One-and-done outfits like this simplify style decisions, and this piece made me feel like a supermodel every time I wore it. - Quince White Sundress
A breezy summer essential, this dress embodied easy elegance. With its flattering fit, pockets, and versatility, it became my go-to for vacations and sunny days. - Silk Navy Two-Piece Set
Nautical-inspired buttons gave this LilySilk set a polished look. It offered the ease of a jumpsuit while allowing for perfect sizing flexibility. - Black and White Tweed Dress
This Goelia dress struck a balance between modern and classic, with metallic threads adding a touch of glam. Paired with knee-high boots, it became my ladylike-meets-edgy favorite. - Sweater Dresses
Cozy yet flattering sweater dresses from brands like Reho became staples. Whether for brunch or holiday gatherings, these dresses proved to be comfortable and chic. - The Timeless Metallic Leopard Skirt
A sentimental piece gifted by my husband 24 years ago, this skirt continues to shine in my wardrobe. Paired with new jackets, it felt fresh and modern. - Elevated Athleisure
On casual days, I embraced leggings, tank tops, and button-down shirts, adding stylish touches like a crossbody bag and sleek sneakers. These outfits allowed me to feel comfortable without sacrificing style. - The Quintessential Black Dress
Quint’s smocked black silk dress proved to be my most versatile piece, transitioning effortlessly from day to evening with just a change of accessories. - Mother-of-the-Bride Elegance
I found a stunning wine-colored dress with flattering ruching and an asymmetrical neckline that was both elegant and budget-friendly.
Lessons from the Misses

- Fit is Everything
From too-short jeans to overly snug tops, I learned that proper fit is the foundation of a successful outfit. Sizing up or tailoring could have transformed some of these misses. - Color Matters
My ill-fated camel Lily Silk dress taught me the importance of choosing colors that complement my skin tone. Camel washed me out, making me appear as if I wasn’t wearing anything at all! - Balance is Key
Outfits with bulky tops and slim bottoms felt disproportionate. Experimentation showed me the value of balance in creating a harmonious silhouette. - Don’t Force Layers
Attempting to winterize lightweight dresses with heavy outerwear often resulted in awkward combinations. Sometimes, it’s better to let a piece shine on its own. - When in Doubt, Take Pictures
Photographing outfits helped me objectively assess what worked and what didn’t. Visual feedback is invaluable for refining personal style.
