I used to make fun of Florida stores for putting out fall merchandise in August. It just seemed that they didn’t get the memo that down here, it’s going to be sweltering for at least a couple of more months, and no one wants to look at cozy sweaters when it’s hot out. And then I became a fashion editor, and quickly learned that the fashion calendar and the temps don’t always align.
I also learned that if you want the cute stuff, you have to shop early. (My clients and the women in my Ageless Style Program have been working on their fall wardrobes since the Nordstrom sale). The early-shopping advice especially applies to anyone outside of a “standard” size range. The harder it is to find your size, the earlier you should be shopping. Stores don’t generally stock as many items in plus, petite, or tall, and at either end of a size range, so those tend to sell out quickly.
Another benefit of shopping early is that you can wear them for a longer period of time. Obviously you’re going to get more use out of a coat that you buy in September than one that you buy in January, and there are sales at both of those times.
So here, 10 trends that you can buy and start wearing right away, and continue to wear through fall. As always, focus on 1-2 that you love, that align with your personal style and lifestyle, and disregard the rest.

Color
Green isn’t the only hot color this season. Red is arguably just as trendy, in shades of scarlet to crimson. Wine also made a big splash on the runway, as well as soft lilac and rich chocolate brown. Most notable were the color combinations, including wine and green, brown and red, etc.
