I’m not being dramatic just so you click on this video. Promise. As you may have picked up from my other videos, I tend to feel strongly about these things, and one of the things that bugs me when I see women FRUSTRATED because they can’t figure out their bodies and they read all of the things and watch all of the things (including my things) and are still confused.
Here’s the truth. You haven’t been lied to. Body type IS important. But it’s only a piece of the puzzle. And in my opinion, a smaller piece of the puzzle than some of the other things I share in today’s videos. When you see body type for what it is, one piece of a 3-part approach to your body, things will start to fall into place.
In today’s video, I break down the 3 things you need to know about your body to choose your most flattering clothes.
What is Flattery
Flattery in body typing comes down to balance and proportion. It simply means that your body looks proportional so that the focus is on you, and not on one specific part of your body.
So, in a nutshell:
Flattery = Balance
It means that we see you overall.
3 Parts of Body Type
The problem with body type is that we can’t look at it as the ultimate solution to flattering our body, because it only gives one piece of the puzzle. Body type or shape refers to the horizontal outline of your body, but it doesn’t take into account 2 other attributes of your body: Your Vertical Proportions and your body’s unique Features.

Body Type Breakdown
In the system that I use, the body types are broken down into 6 categories. You can view my body type series here and figure out your own body type.
But here’s the thing: Many women are a combination of body types. You may find that you don’t completely fit any of these types, and that is totally normal and actually pretty common.

Proportion & Fit
The next piece of the puzzle is vertical proportions. I determine these using the Fashion Fit Formula, the only system of its kind in the world that is based on your unique measurements and math/science. There is no guesswork with this system. You can learn more about it here. The FFF can tell you the exact proportions for your clothes to fit and flatter you the most. Here are some examples of the FFF in action.

Fit & Flattery
The most flattering clothes on all body types, sizes, and ages are going to be clothes that follow the lines of the body. In other words, they fit well. They are not oversized or tight.

Features
The third component of flattery is your body’s unique features and characteristics. Full bust, flat bump, muscular calves, broad shoulders. Each of these details is a feature that makes you unique. And some of these features will negate some of the flattery principles for your body type, which is why it’s important to look at your body holistically.

SO to recap, unless you look at your body holistically, and get a clear overall picture of your body type, you cannot make the best choices to flatter your unique body.
