My goal on this channel is to simplify style, and that’s what this video is all about. It can be easy to overcomplicate things and feel like we need to follow a lot of rules, when many of us know intuitively the outfits that feel most like us.
But how do we take those outfits, the ones we reach for all the time on repeat, and make them cuter. Update, upgrade, and elevate them. It’s pretty simple, actually. You take what you’re already wearing, and take it up a level. And that’s the topic of today’s video. It doesn’t take a lot of time, and it probably involves using items you already have.
So here, how to take what you’re already wearing on repeat, and make it cuter. And it only takes a couple of simple steps.
Determine Your Current Level
I’ve categorized most of our everyday outfits into 5 levels so that we can easily determine where we are and where we want to go. Find your everyday level on this list. They include:
- Athleisure: Leggings, sweats, baggy tees, or workout clothes
- Casual: Basics like tees, jeans, and sweaters, worn simply
- Smart Casual: Basics and/or statement pieces, worn with accessories and “styled”
- Going Out: Date night or girls’ night outfits, elevated and a little dressier than daytime smart casual
- Dressy: The most formal, this is your everyday dressed-up look for church or meetings or daytime events. A step below cocktail.
Go Up A Level
Decide to go up a level in your everyday outfits, for example, from athleisure to casual, and from casual to smart casual. Often, the easiest way to take a very casual outfit and make it a little dressier is with a simple switch of accessories, or a slightly more elevated version of what you’re already wearing. For example, instead of leggings, switch to nicer joggers, or jeans. Instead of a baggy tee, make it a nice tee, or a simple short sleeve top.
Add 5 Key Elements
The key items that you need to make your current outfits cuter is all the finishing touches that we talk about all of the time on this channel. They include:
- Jackets/coats/completers
- Shoes
- Bags
- Jewelry and accessories
- Beauty
Any one, two, or even all of these elements can transform your everyday outfit from just plain casual to smart casual.
Get Inspired
Let’s look at a few examples of these strategies at work.
Athleisure Upgrades
Here, we start with athleisure pieces, and show the simple tweaks that take them from workout clothes to outfits.

Smart Casual
If you’re already wearing outfits like the first, which is cute, make it even cuter by adding a completer piece or switching out the accessories.
