Trends are trendy but they don’t need to be spendy.
I’m quitting my job immediately and going into poetry.
Seriously, you do NOT need to spend a lot to bring some updated pieces into your wardrobe. Here’s what I recommend:
Start with what’s in your closet. Add whatever is missing to create your Wardrobe From Scratch. Update your wardrobe for the season with carefully chosen trends that reflect your personal style and lifestyle. 3-5 is all you need. A jacket, a pair of shoes and/or boots, and an updated accessory are the easiest ways to take your current wardrobe into fall 2023. Have more room in your budget? Try a new sweater and a fab pair of jeans or pants.
In today’s video, I share high-low versions of some of the best trends of the pieces, from ballet flats to Chanel-inspired jackets. And of course you can shop them all here.
The Cowboy Boot
There is no easier update for fall than a pair of boots, and cowboy boots are what’s happening this season. If you plan to have this in your wardrobe forever (they are classic, after all), invest a little bit more for great quality, but if these are just a fun occasional item, consider the inexpensive options.

The Mary Jane
One of the key trends of the season, the mary jane is showing up on heels, ballet flats, and chunkier versions like the style shown here. These are a great choice if the classic Mary Jane style has never been your thing.

The Ballet Flat
The classic simple and streamlined ballet flat with a little bow is a trend that’s also timeless, so spend a bit more if these are a go-to, or a bit less if you’re trying them out.

The Oversized Tote
I love the Portland Leather oversized tote for everyday and travel, or the classic Longchamp tote, but if you’re looking for a fun, trendy tote, the Marc Jacobs one can’t be beat. The designer version is still relatively affordable at under $200, or go for the inexpensive version from WalMart.

Chanel Inspired Jacket
The classic round neck Chanel inspired jacket or cardigan is timeless but also having a moment. My favorite mid-priced version is the J. Crew Lady jacket, but you’ll find these at every price point.

The Trouser Pant
These high-waisted pleated pants are polished and so chic, although they can be a little challenging for petites to pull off. If this style is on your wish list, I”ve found a few options for you at every price point.

The Shearling Jacket
Shearling is so chic and luxurious and always in style, but this season, they’re also a trend. From all over shearling teddy-bear style jackets to leather with shearling trim, there’s something for every style and budget here.

The Denim Dress
Head-to-toe denim is a key trend for fall, and a denim dress is the easiest and most timeless way to get the look. I chose a shirtdress style because it’s chic and flattering.

The Plaid Blazer
A fall favorite that is enjoying a moment in the spotlight, you can’t go wrong with investing a bit more in this style, or choose a more budget-friendly option if it’s an occasional piece. This season’s styles have a bit more waist definition for flattery.

The Leather Trench
Leather is always key for fall, and never more so than this season. A trench combines a classic silhouette with this luxurious fabric to create a trend that is also timeless.

Which of these trends are you considering for your wardrobe? And are you going to go high or low? Let me know in the comments!
