If your current wardrobe is giving you a big case of the blahs, then you might be surprised if I tell you that the clothes might not be the problem at all. The problem might be in the accessories.
Accessories offer the easiest and most affordable way to update our wardrobes, and they always fit. Why are they so effective? It comes down to math. Definitely not my strength, but I’ll give it a shot.
$100 dress worn 10 times equals $10 CPU (cost per use).
$100 pair of shoes worn 100 times equals $1 cost per use
If you find an accessory that you truly use and that becomes a go-to, the cost per use makes it a much better investment.
You can wear the dress occasionally, but wear the shoes almost daily.
That’s why I’m making a case for updating your wardrobe this season with some of the key accessories of fall/winter 2023. There is sure to be something on this list that you love and that will suit your style, budget, and lifestyle.
You can shop all of these items in this catalog.
If you want to successfully add interest to any outfit, I always suggest having the following in your shoe wardrobe: a neutral, a metallic, and a color. This season, the neutral is white, the metallic is silver, the color is red.
Bring one or all of these into your wardrobe and you’ll have an easy instant update.
The Ballet Flat
From classic to edgy to modern to feminine, there’s a ballet flat for nearly every personal style, and it’s arguably the shoe of the season, making it a practical and comfortable wardrobe update.
The Kitten Heel
Another wearable and classic trend this season is the kitten heel. Keep the rest of the details modern to keep it stylish, not frumpy. This season’s best styles feature a slingback and either an almond/point or a square toe.
The Red Shoe
I wasn’t kidding when I said this is the shoe color (and general fashion color) of the season. There’s a red shade that looks good on everyone, and the newest way to wear an a red shoe is with a red outfit for a monochromatic effect.
The Pointed Toe
The point is back on trend, emerging from the classic category to take its rightful place among the season’s trendiest styles, but this time, it’s pointier than ever. An elongated point creates a look we haven’t seen in years, or stick with a classic pointy toe style.
The Western Trend
A small dose of Western is all you need to update your basic outfits.
The Moto Boot
The chunky Doc Marten style boot has been trending for years. Try a lug stole style in either pull on or lace-up with cool details.
Another key trend of the season, the clog is the perfect counterpart to fall dresses and denim.
The High Boot
While knee high is a fall staple, thigh high boots are also returning this season. While they are not for everyone, they’re a fun trend to experiment with if they appeal to you.
The Classic Loafer
Less chunky than the loafers of seasons past, but not thin soled or delicate either, the loafers this season include a classic penny loafer style and other similar versions.
While small bags still show up in stores, the key bags of the season are oversized and structured.
The Oversized Tote
From the bag that started it all, the Saint Laurent travel sac du jour, to an affordable option in leather or faux leather, there’s a large tote for every woman.
The Top Handle Bag
My favorite handbag style, it’s classic and feminine and polished.
The Bucket Bag
Fun and a little more casual, there’s a bucket bag for every budget this season.
The theme for jewelry this season is oversized, dramatic and statement-making, from chunky chains and chokers to armfuls of bangles.
The Chunky Chain
Whether layered or worn alone, the substantial chain necklace is a trend that isn’t going anywhere.
The bold choker, from beaded to tubular styles, is a key look this season.
The Chandelier Earring
Long, fringey, and glamorous, the oversized chandelier is a fall style staple.
The Statement Stud
No longer subtle, studs this season are oversized and dramatic.
The Bold Bangle
Big, bulky bangles stacked together are a key jewelry look of the season and add instant impact to an outfit.
