I am not telling you not to buy new stuff. Nobody loves new stuff as much as I do. Seriously. Nobody.
I am like a kid on Christmas morning when the new stuff hits the stores.
You get the idea. I am all in on trends. But what I don’t love is this ridiculous notion that we HAVE to toss out the old and bring in the new, year after year.
My mantra is, and always will be, start with what you own. Here’s how I see it.
Start with what you own. Add trends you love. Mix, match, and repeat.
If you start with what you own, and recognize that much of your wardrobe is ALREADY in style and on trend, then you will be able to choose a few key pieces that speak to your personal style and will go with your existing fall wardrobe.
And you can shop all of these items right here.
So with that in mind, here are 10 trends you probably already own for fall 2023.
Fall Silhouettes
Although boxy and oversized silhouettes are still very much a trend, the emphasis this season is on the waist, and there’s a way for every woman to pull this off.
The classic hourglass silhouette reigned supreme on many runways, with styles featuring a nipped in waist emphasized with a wide belt. This works best on Red and Purple body types.
If you are a Blue or Yellow body type, or if you carry a lot of weight in the front of your tummy, try another key trend, the peplum.
For those with an Orange or Green body type, try this season’s hottest neckline, the off-the-shoulder.

Dark Romance
Black lace and sheer fabrics, dark florals, and other moody romantic styles dominated the runways. Try this in a subtle way, like a black lace blouse, or go all in on the trend.

Metallics
Metallics aren’t just for evening anymore. A metallic shoe is the most versatile neutral you can own, but there are other ways you can bring shine into an everyday wardrobe, from pretty tops to festive dresses.

Tailoring
Sharp tailoring, whether fitted or boxy, is everywhere this season. Wear the 3-piece suit that’s a key trend for fall, or split the pieces up for a more casual lifestyle.

Basics
The same pieces I featured in the Wardrobe From Scratch turned up on the runways, and the trend was basic with basics. Tees and jeans. Sweaters and pants. Simple simple simple.

Western
Whether you’re a cowgirl or a city slicker, if you like western-inspired style, there is room for it every wardrobe. The easiest way to do this is with accessories, from a cowboy hat or boots in fun colors to jewelry or a belt. Or go all in with a statement shirt or jeans.

Sweaters
I know. Sweaters in fall. Groundbreaking. 🙂 There are, however, some fun new sleeves and interesting textures to check out if your sweater drawer needs an update.

Red and Pink
My favorite colors, especially when worn together, happen to be 2 separate trends this fall. The hot pink is a carryover from Barbie summer and the general pink and magenta trend, but red is definitely the color of the season, on everything from clothes to accessories.
The most modern way to wear these colors is head to toe.

Leather
Another completely predictable trend, the newness here is that leather, like color and denim, is being worn head to toe. Whether you go all in on this complete leather look or not, a little bit of leather (real or faux) is a great addition to any fall wardrobe.

Denim
Like leather, denim is seen head to toe this season, even down to denim shoes! Whether this full on look is for you or not, you’ll find an updated denim piece for every style this season.

Yay! Those sound like great additions to your wardrobe. I think they would also look good together!

I have been inspired to buy the red flat toe ballet shoes I have resisted until now! Also considering a denim dress! If I buy a mini dress it will be the perfect length as I am also petite. Thanks for the inspiration!
