I did not set out to create a quiet luxury video. The point of this video was really to talk about pieces that transcend age, and that can elevate our style whether we are in our 40s or our 80s. They work for every woman at nearly every age.
They also happen to have that air of quiet luxury.
Acccident? I don’t think so. The whole old money/quiet luxury aesthetic which so many of you have asked me about is truly just an offshoot on classic elegant style. There’s nothing mysterious or hard to pull off about it, which is why I am always a little amused at the many how-to old-money style videos out there.
And then I add one to the mix. š
If you really want quiet luxury, keep it simple, neutral, and classic, with the best quality you can afford. Subtle accessories and polished but simple beauty finish the look.
Today, I’m talking about 7 pieces that are (nearly) universally flattering and work with many wardrobes. While some of these may seem dressy, there’s a more casual version, or a more casual way to wear them, that makes them work for many lifestyles.
So now, the 7 essential pieces in an age-defying wardrobe.
The Fit & Flare Dress
This style is classic and timeless and also works on almost every body, provided there is no hard waist definition. The best styles skim over the curves and create a flattering and feminine silhouette.
For the old money variation on this style, keep it simple, neutral, and in a natural fiber whenever possible.
Many fit & flare dresses are also versatile, and can be worn to work, church, or a special event and also dressed down for weekend.

The Wrap Dress
The wrap style dress, particularly a true wrap that is adjustable, in a neutral knit (silk, wool, or cashmere) is an almost universally flattering style. Because of its adjustability, it can be tied in a way that is most flattering for every woman.

The Silk Blouse
Let’s get past the idea that silk blouses have to be dressy. They are breezy and effortless and exude elegance, and they’re no harder to wear than a basic button-down. (I wash mine in a mesh bag on delicate and hang them to dry). Depending on your lifestyle, you can dress these up or pair them with any of your casual bottoms. They are really that versatile.

The A-Line Skirt
Another flattering and super versatile wardrobe staple, an A-line skirt in a flowy fabric skim over the curves creating a feminine and timeless silhouette. Choose styles in silk, flowy cotton, linen, or a knit and skip stiff leather or denim versions.

The Wide Leg Pant
Oh the drama and the glamour of a wide-leg pant. They remind me of Katherine Hepburn in old movies, and they have an elegance and polish that a skinny pant just doesn’t provide. While the elegance of this style comes from their polish, you can achieve a similar look with a more relaxed wide-leg in cotton or linen.

The Blazer
Nothing beats the elegance and instant polish of a blazer. They truly elevate any two separates into a cohesive outfit. A blazer in a ponte or scuba knit is versatile and easily dressed up or down. Not a blazer girl? Any structured jacket that flatters you and works for your lifestyle will have the same outfit-finishing power.

The Cigarette Pant
The cigarette pant is an iconic silhouette made popular by 50s movie stars and still as relevant today. It’s the new skinny, and with its slim straight (and not clingy) silhouette, it’s much more flattering and elegant.
