It’s very hard for me to not be a bossy-pants. After all, I am a big sister, and a mom, and a business owner, and a personal stylist. Bossiness is in the job description for me. But still, I try not to throw my weight around. And I only occasionally issue edicts and musts and nevers and such, but sometimes, I am pushed beyond my limits.
And this is one of those times.
I’m not here to tell you what to do. I’m not. Honestly. BUT DON’T OVERPLUCK YOUR EYEBROWS.
Don’t overpluck your eyebrows.
Wise Words from Nada
DON’T OVERPLUCK YOUR EYEBROWS. Definitely and please do not overpluck those brows.
Thanks for letting me get that off my chest. While other trends are only harmful to your style, overplucked eyebrows are a lasting change. And by lasting, I mean they never grow back quite the same. If you know, you know.
Fortunately, most of the trends on this list are a little less dramatic, and updating them is as easy as making a simple switch to a similar, but more updated, item.
Here, trends that are out of style in 2023, and what to wear instead!
One Shoulder Tops & Dresses
The one-shoulder has been replaced by an updated off-the-shoulder this season, and it’s a pretty and wearable alternative to another passe trend, the cold-shoulder, which shows no signs of coming back.

Camo
Camo prints, which showed up on everything from shackets to joggers in recent years, have been replaced by more eclectic prints, including blurry prints, novelty prints, florals, and polka dots.

Mom Jeans
The exaggerated mom jeans, with their super high waists and voluminous legs, have been replaced by a baggy style that is arguably easier to wear, provided you choose the merely baggy and not gargantuan versions.

Ugly Shoes
I never quite understood the appeal of Crocs and dad sneakers and shower slides and ugly shoes in general, but after years of trendiness, they are finally on the wane, replaced by pretty shoes such as pumps, ballet slippers, and wedges.

Fur Vests
Vests aren’t going anywhere, but this season we are seeing utility vests and menswear-inspired vests and puffer vests, but not fur (or faux fur) vests, so stash those in a closet until they come back.

Distressed Denim
Holding on to those ripped jeans by a thread? (Bad pun intented). Set those aside this season, and try a pair in the jean of the year, an all-over light, even wash.

Paisley
This classic print, which has been trending the last couple of years, is being replaced by florals and polka dots.

High Low Hems
High-low hems haven’t actually been trendy for a couple of years, although I still spot them from time to time. Instead, the trendy hem du jour is a hanky hem, both in skirts/dresses or in tops.

Lug Sole
Okay, lug soles are NOT out at all in my opinion, and I saw plenty on the runways and in current collections, but some sources say they will soon be replaced by rubber sole styles.

Chunky Heel
Chunky heels, which have reigned supreme in the last few years, are being edged out by stilettos, the heel style of the moment, as well as wedges, which have made a triumphant return.

Slouchy Boots
Scrunchy or slouchy boots, a personal favorite of mine this past season, have been replaced by classic knee high boots.

Sock Boots
Stretchy comfy sock boots have been replaced by wider styles, like regular knee high or OTK boot styles.

Clogs
Clogs are not officially out, as I still saw them everywhere, but they are waning, and definitely replaced by the wedge.

Peep Toe Boots
Admittedly, these haven’t been trending in a long time. Possibly in forever. But what is new this season is the return of the peep toe pump or shoe.

Infinity Scarves
Like the peep toe booties, above, infinity scarves have not been in style for a long time, but this season, the long skinny scarf is trending and fills the same purpose.

High Waisted Styles
High waisted jeans and pants, which have been trending for a long time, are on their way out, being replaced by a low rose or that fabulous in-between option, the mid-rise.

Bleached Denim
Denim with obvious bleach spots, drips, or fading is being replaced by a clean, light wash.

Cropped Jacket
Cropped jackets, which are fabulous on petites or the merely short-waisted (like me!), are on their way out and replaced by longer blazers, which never really left the spotlight.

Bushy Eyebrows
Eyebrow trends come and go, but the fuller brows of recent years has made way for a superskinny version, never a good idea.

Which of the new trends are you excited to try? And which trend do you have a hard time getting rid of? Let me know in the comments!

Nada, I’m delighted to see that my 20+year old light PaulHarrisDenim jeans are back in style! I would never have known without your blog! I’ve been wearing them for nearly 20 years because I had them, now I won’t feel sheepish about wearing them out of the house. Thank you for all you do to keep women like me confident and updated.
