Overwhelmed by the idea of editing your closet? Chances are, a much more stylish and manageable wardrobe is hiding in your current wardrobe. Here’s how to find it!
For most women, having too many clothes is the single biggest roadblock to great style.
1. Take Everything Out Of Your Closet That You LOVE
Often we get so intimidated by the idea of purging our closets that we freeze. The idea of getting rid of a lot of clothes (and the memories and money that are tied to those clothes) is overwhelming so we do nothing, and suffer through an overstuffed closet. So here’s my suggestion. Don’t get rid of anything. At all. Instead, identify the things in your wardrobe that you love. These are the pieces that get you compliments, that you are excited to wear, that fit you and are flattering and check all of the boxes.
You might find that you have 3 pieces or 30 pieces, but try to pull out at least 10-15 items you can see yourself wearing. Push all the rest aside. Either keep these items at the front of your closet or on a separate rack.
This is your de facto wardrobe. Your new capsule wardrobe for the season.
You don’t actually have a wardrobe of 172 blah items. You have 34 great items. (Or however many you found in your wardrobe).
The rest of the items in your closet are probably just visual clutter. Your favorite old suit from work or the pants that are 3 sizes too small are not actually part of your current wardrobe, because you can’t/don’t, or won’t wear them.
Admit this, and you’ve won the closet war.
2. Create outfits
Next, create as many outfit combinations as you can with the pieces you’ve chosen. Hang those items together, and take a pic. Line them up so that you can grab an outfit a day for the next few weeks from this newly curated capsule.
3. Wear the Outfits
Every single day, wear one of the new outfits. You might need to pull a basic from your “old” wardrobe to fill in any gaps, but for the most part, you want to stick to the favorites you’ve identified, your capsule wardrobe. Then, take a pic in the outfit.
The single most impactful thing you can do for your style is to take a picture in your outfit every single day.

When you take an outfit pic every day, you’ll start to see what you truly wear and how you look in your outfits, and learn more about your style and flattery than anything else.
It is a total game-changer.
