I’m a cross-that-bridge-when-I come-to-it kind of girl, at least when it comes to practical things. Imagined or interpersonal stuff, I’ll worry about for days. But concrete things, like aging and budgeting and filling my car with gas? I ignore it, until I can’t anymore.
That’s what happened with menopause. I was just doing my thing, unaware of the massive changes that lay ahead, and then bam! Migraines, meltdowns, and mid-section expansion all hit at once. I was also hot for the first time ever.
So. Much. Fun.
Whether it’s in the distant future or a distant memory, or whether, like me, you are going on your 972nd week of the midlife party we call menopause, you’ll want to be a little more prepared than I was. A few strategic luxuries can make navigating this season so much more pleasant.
Trust me, your whole family will thank you.
Because I’ve been in the thick of it for so long, I’ve tried a lot of remedies. These are the ones that I’m loving right now, from little luxuries to problem solvers. In honor of Menopause Awareness Month, here are 4 products every woman needs over 40.
Evercool Comforter from Rest Duvet
What magic is this? I honestly don’t know, but I’m so glad it exists. The Evercool Comforter from Rest Duvet is silky and smooth and light and so so comfortable, which is awesome and all, but not the amazing part. You have to touch it to believe it, but the Evercool comforter is really, really cool. And not cool as in hip. Cool as in just-came-out-of-the-refrigerator cool. It is amazing. It is literally the perfect antidote to night sweats and hot flashes, and you don’t have to be going through menopause to love it. My husband, always a hot-sleeper, is a huge fan, and my teenagers have been spotted sprawling on it any chance they get. It’s just that refreshing. Here’s what I love about it:
- Optimal Cooling: It stays cool all night long, with a higher cooling rating than any other fabric.
- Lightweight: It feels like your sleeping under a cloud, and both the fabric are breathable so you never wake up sweaty.
- Hypoallergenic: The Evercool is eco-friendly, sustainable, and safe for the most sensitive skin. No harsh chemicals.
- Pet-Friendly: Our floofy friend, Sophie, who can deposit white fluff on surfaces she doesn’t even touch, has not been able to make her mark on the Evercool. It repels fur!
- Easy to care for! Just throw it in the washer on low and let it air dry. It dries super quickly, even in Florida humidity.
- It comes in Gray and Aqua Blue, with different shades on either side so you can pick one that suits your room. Or do what I do and use it as a blanket (no duvet cover or flat sheet necessary, because you want it to touch your skin!) and top with a pretty light coverlet.

Asutra
There are nutrients we all know that we need, like Vitamin C and Omega 3s and stuff. And then there are the ones that are so critical but get very little press, like Magnesium. Who knew that most of us (80%!) are deficient in this nutrient, and that it can play such a big role in our well being!

Fortunately, there are brands like Asutra that make getting your daily dose of magnesium easy, even for reluctant supplement takers like myself. Asutra offers magnesium supplements in cream, spray, bath, and body butter forms so you can choose the one that works best for you, from a magnesium-and-melatonin boosting bedtime cream to a pain-relieving spray with capsaicin.

The Galveston Diet
Developed by an OB/GYN, Dr. Mary Claire Haver, The Galveston Diet is a program specifically designed for women in menopause, perimenopause, post menopause that incorporates the right balance of nutrients (macros), a low-carb diet, movement, and intermittent fasting. I’ve been on this program for about 6 weeks now and I’ve seen a significant difference in how I look and feel. For more on this program and Dr. Haver’s approach, you can check out the site here or check her out on YouTube.

ClaryCalm
I am not an essential oil guru, but I do know that something about the combination of essential oils in this magical blend helps to instantly roll away stress and hormonal crankiness. I don’t know why it works. It just does. My friend Tasha can hook you up.

Where are you at in your menopause journey? And what have you relied on to get you through? Let me know in the comments so we can all help each other!
