There are days when a t-shirt and jeans just won’t cut it.
In my recent video on elevated essentials, I talked about how elevating a single item in an outfit (for example, swapping out a regular cotton button-down for a silk one) can take an outfit from simple to super stylish. So today I thought it might be helpful to share a list of the elevated and luxurious fall wardrobe pieces that I consider essentials. These pieces are essential for 3 reasons:
- They’re versatile. These are pieces you can dress up or down, all year round.
- They’re timeless. These are pieces that won’t date quickly and that you will have in your wardrobe for a long time.
- They’re chic. Every one of these pieces has the ability to transform an outfit from basic to beautiful.
So here, my list of luxury fall essentials that every woman should own over 40. And you can shop them all right here.
This video is a collaboration with LilySilk, and I have updated coupon codes for you! Plus, each of the pictures is linked below for easy shopping.

Silk Skirt
I used to think a silk skirt was just for dressing up, until the slip skirts came back into style a couple of years ago. Suddenly, this skirt became an everyday staple, elevating tees and sweaters and turning every top into an outfit. If the traditional bias cut midi length slip skirt isn’t for you, try a different length or an A-line cut instead. Pencil skirts and wrap skirts are also great choices, if slightly less versatile.

Silk Blouse
If there’s any look that is more elegant and timeless than a silk blouse and simple trousers, I don’t know what it is. Even paired with jeans and simple jewelry, this essential looks effortlessly chic. Pair it with a silk skirt and it works as a dress, layer it over a cami, or accessorize it with a scarf. There are multiple ways to style this versatile piece.

Trench Coat
A trench is just so chic. It’s at it’s best in camel, gray, or black, especially for your first one, but works so well as a layer of a simple tee and jeans, as a work-friendly outer layer, and as the perfect transitional coat. Throw it on and knot it at the waist if you’re running errands post-workout and no one needs to know how casual you are underneath.

Classic Blazer
A blazer does not need to be dressy or corporate at all. I wear my LilySilk one, which is super flattering and very similar to this super expensive version from Balmain, with a cami and jeans, or a tee, all the time. I’ve also added a couple more casual versions here that can be dressed up or down with ease. If you haven’t tried wearing a blazer out of the office, try it today. It’s a game-changer!

Silk Cami (or Sleeveless Top)
The ultimate layering piece, a silk cami can peek out from under a jacket or cardigan, or be worn on its own (if your comfortable with your arms, etc.) with jeans or pants. It turns a skirt into a dress and matching pants into a jumpsuit. If a cami is too bare, try a simple sleeveless top instead.

Classic Dress
A little black dress has nothing on the versatile black (or navy, or brown, or gray) dress. The perfect version is one that you can dress up or down with equal ease. I love the wrap dress, with its flattering shape and pockets (!!!), because it can be dressed up with heels and nice jewelry or worn casually with flats and a denim jacket.

Cashmere Sweater
Nothing like cozy cashmere to elevate an outfit while still keeping it comfortable. There’s a style for everyone. I adore a turtleneck, but in my climate, I can only wear it occasionally, so I find I reach for a v-neck more often. A scoop neck style is perfect for a Style Dial Orange (or Green) because it visually broadens your shoulders and balances hips.

Scarf
A silk scarf is a classic that also happens to be trending this season, and it adds an instant pop of color and pattern to any look. I love to tie mine to a bag or wear it in my hair or around my waist. Or wear it around your neck or tucked under the lapel of your trench.
You can find all of them in this catalog.
