You know that I believe that trends are essential. If we want to look fresh and modern, updating our wardrobes for the season can be a quick and helpful way to do that. But that doesn’t mean that we need to adopt every trend, and it definitely doesn’t mean that we need to overspend.
I like to skip the microtrends, the flash-in-the-pan trends that are only here for a minute, and stick to trends you will be able to wear for a couple of years. Unless you live in NYC and surround yourself with fashion industry people, most trends have a lifespan of at least a couple of seasons. They are not long-term investments in your wardrobe, and you should budget for them accordingly. Some of the items, like espadrilles, are classics but are especially popular this season.
The higher-end items on this list are still fairly affordable, for the most part, but I give you high-low options for each trend so you can make the choice that works best for your budget and personal style. Many of these items are actually classics that are currently having a moment (open-weave sweaters, linen shirts, trousers) while others are more specific to this season.
Of course you can find everything I featured in this catalog.
Here, some of the top trends of summer, for every budget.
Espadrilles
This classic style of every variation is trending this year, while also staying a classic pick. I will never stop wearing espadrilles. I find them comfortable and chic and also very flattering. The key look this year is a flat platform style in a neutral color with an ankle strap. These are versatile, comfortable, and chic, and pair equally well with shorts and dresses.

Summer Sweater
A lightweight layer with a breezy open weave is the perfect piece to throw on over a bathing suit or to pair with a tank and all your summer bottoms on a cool evening. Pick a white or off-white style for maximum summertime vibes.

White Linen Shirt
Another classic posing as a trend, this perennial favorite is worth splurging on if you already know it’s going to be a go-to for you for years. Or try the equally stylish but more affordable steal version.

Wide Leg Trousers
A classic dress trouser is a classic, but this silhouette has left the boardroom and become a classic yet trendy staple in wardrobes for the past couple of seasons. The best trousers have a beautiful, slightly drapey shape and great fabric. Both of these check those boxes.

Crochet Dress
This summertime style is fun and flirty and definitely a trend for summer, although some versions are more classic than others. Head-to-toe crochet can be hard to pull off, but these clean silhouettes make the look more wearable. Pair with simple accessories for a modern look.

Printed Fringe Dress
Definitely a trend and a statement piece, these fringed pieces in bold patterns are definitely not for everyone, but they are a fun addition to a summertime wardrobe and make special pieces for vacations and special events. Farm Rio is the brand that set the bar for these silhouettes, but fast fashion brands like SheIn were quick to run with this style.

Floral Midi Skirt
A floral midi has been a summertime staple of the last couple of years, and it doesn’t seem to go anywhere, although the details change every now and then. A slit in the front, if you’re comfortable showing some leg, can actually make this look easier to wear, especially if you’re petite. Otherwise, choose a slit-free style in a simple summery floral.

Peasant Skirt
This is a classic summertime skirt that never truly goes out of style. It’s easy and breezy and flatters everyone. Just make sure the length is right for you. A crisp navy is a nice choice if it works in your color palette. It’s such a great neutral for summer.

Braided Sandal
The sandal of the season for a couple of years now, the braided style is still going strong this summer. It’s versatile, comfortable, and an easy update. A block heel makes it wearable, although these are available in flat versions as well.

White Midi Dress
A breezy white dress is such a great choice for summer, and works equally well at church and summery events (except for weddings lol) as well as an easy everyday option. The crisp white romantic style midi dress has been a staple of brands like Faithfull the Label, Hill House, and Love Shack Fancy for the past couple of seasons, but companies like Few Moda, which makes its dresses at the same factories as the premium brands without the high markup, offer similar style with great quality for less.
