If you want to be spared my lecture about why trends are increasingly important the older we get yada yada yada, let me sum it up for you here:
The older we get, the more we need trends.

Now that we have that out of the way, let’s talk about which trends, because we’re not going to just wear any old thing just because it’s popular. That’s one benefit of having a couple of decades behind us. We know what we can confidently pass on (bra tops, anyone?) and what we love and will end up wearing.
That said, not everything on this list is for everyone, but after perusing these pieces, you’ll have an idea of what’s currently trending and available in stores, and be able to tweak these trends to suit your tastes, life, and budget.
So here, 5 of the key trends happening in fashion right now, and how we can wear them over 40/50/60 and beyond. And you can find all of these trends right here.

The Cropped Jacket
After seasons of long boyfriend blazers and slightly shapeless shackets (a shirt-jacket), this trend is the polar opposite and honestly refreshing. It’s also more flattering on many, especially those of us who are petite or simply found boxy blazers hard to style. You can find cropped versions of all your standbys, from classic blazers to motos to denim jackets, so pick one that suits your wardrobe best. Shop all of these jackets right here.

The New Cold Shoulder
From shoulder cutouts to asymmetrical styles, the newest spring tops are an updated take on the tired but useful cold shoulder tops of years past. It gives just enough shoulder-baring to keep you air-conditioned, without risking indecent exposure. Shop all of these styles and more right here.

The Spring Knit
From cool crochet to classic knit polos, the springtime knits is everywhere this season and an easy update. It’s also a trend that won’t date quickly because, although they’re having a major moment right now, they never really go out of style. A key trend to consider is the knit dress, which can be more forgiving in A-line or sheath styles and is surprisingly versatile and comfortable. Shop all of these styles and more right here.

The Bright Dress
Pick your favorite color, and you’re sure to find it in a pretty dress this season. From bold shades of yellow, lime, fuchsia, and red to more subtle blues, greens and pinks, there’s literally a shade and shape for every woman this season. It’s an easy little lift for that warm-weather wardrobe. Shop all of these styles and more right here.

The Elevated Button Down
Beyond your basic button-down, the new styles feature interesting colors, materials, shapes, and details that make them unique, whether it’s a slouchy cut or a waist tie. Since this is such a wardrobe staple for so many of us, investing in a fun and fresh new version ensures that it’s something you will wear. From shoulder cutouts to asymmetrical styles, the newest spring tops are an updated take on the tired but useful cold shoulder tops of years past. It gives just enough shoulder-baring to keep you air-conditioned, without risking indecent exposure. Shop all of these styles and more right here.

Thanks Lilly! Every color is in style this season, honestly, so pick one that flatters you! I will definitely do pants in another video! They are all over the place and honestly anything goes right now in pants except jeggings and capris!

I think the cropped jacket (the jean jacket has always been so versatile anyway), and the button down shirt will be good for me. The rest… not so much. Oranges and yellows are not good on my skin tone, and I do not like bare shoulders, even though I find them charming on other women. But red does agree with me, so maybe that will be something to look for this spring.
Any thoughts on pants?
Thanks for your great suggestions, as always : )
