The Best White Shirts for Every Body

If there’s one item in my Wardrobe Building Series that, without fail, every single woman needs in her wardrobe, I would say this is it. Every single woman would benefit from a fab white (or off-white, ivory, or cream) shirt in her wardrobe. It’s that critical connector that makes the rest of your clothes work together in an effortless way.

But not every white shirt is created equal, and they can fill different gaps in your wardrobe and play a completely different role in an outfit. Here the 3 categories of white shirts, as I see them.

1. The Simple Shirt: This is a basic white shirt, usually in cotton or some other woven material, and usually in a menswear inspired button-down style. It can be cut slim to the body or worn boxy and oversized, or something in between.
2. The Statement Shirt: This can be tailored or blousey, silk or cotton or a blend, but this shirt has details on it, whether it’s a strong shape, lace, or other embellishments that make it more special and less of a staple.
3. The Silky Shirt: Whether in natural silk or a blend, this is a blouse that can easily be dressed up but also looks right at home with casual staples.

After you decide which of these white shirts you want (and I recommend a simple and a statement version), the next question to ask yourself is whether you have any specifications.
