The lady in this picture just couldn’t be happier. Look at her, all relaxed and smiling and waving her credit card around. My guess is that she just got done reading my award-winning* post on How to Shop for Clothes Online and has just had a successful online shopping spree. So successful, in fact, that some of her purchases have already arrived!
(*The aforementioned post hasn’t actually won any actual awards, actually. But it was just published yesterday, so there’s time. Award away. I’m waiting).
Anyway, learning how to shop for clothes online is only half the battle. The other half, of course, is knowing where to shop. And I don’t mean Zappos, Amazon, and Nordstrom, although these sites are so near and dear to me that they are like family. I’m talking about stores that may not be on your radar. Yet.
Here, my picks for the 10 best sites to buy clothes, and my favorite dress from each site! I hope you discover a new favorite shopping resource on this list!
Oh, and don’t say I didn’t warn you!
(As always, the dresses in this post are linked, for easy shopping!)
1. 6pm
I mentioned already that Zappo’s and I are tight, right? That’s why I’m all too familiar with the extended family, from the posh Zappo’s Couture to the off price 6pm. Yes, Zappo’s has an off-price site, and it’s every bit as fantabulous as you imagine. I stumbled on this site years ago, when scouring the internet for Primigi shoes for my girls, and I’ve largely kept it a secret all this time. And yes, I am a little ashamed, which is why I decided to come clean. After all, I owe you one for sticking around through my rant about pantyhose (blech!) and ugly bathing suits. Just like Zappo’s, you can find everything from clothes to shoes for the whole family, but everything is discounted!
2. Topshop
This British fast fashion brand has cropped up in major cities around the U.S. The clothes are trendy but not over the top, the quality is good and the prices are moderate, not bargain basement.
3. ASOS
This massive online only retailer is the largest British online store for beauty and fashion, and it’s easy to see why. The selection is staggering, with more than 850 brands, including the company’s own. Prices vary according to brand, but are generally extremely reasonable. A quick glance at the site showed prices ranging from an ASOS brand wrap dress for $14 to a See by Chloe dress for almost $600. There is also a huge assortment of sizes, including Petite, Maternity and Curve (plus).
4. Next
Back when this British company had American stores, a good friend used to be a buyer, and that’s when i first discovered their trendy, affordable styles. Their quality is good, especially for the price, and they have really cute styles for the whole family.
5. Bluefly
I have been shopping at Bluefly as long as I can remember, when the concept of finding discounted designer styles online was still a novelty. That’s why it amazes me that many people still haven’t heard of it. This site has been my source for Theory separates, Prada pumps and little black dresses from Alexander Wang and Jil Sander. And I love that they now offer kids, mens and home selections too!
6. Farfetch
I am not going to pretend that this site is a go-to for 20 dollar dresses. It’s not. But it is the best place online to find interesting, exclusive items from incredible boutiques around the world, and from hip new designers like Parosh and Cedric Charlier. It’s the perfect place to find something truly unique.
7. EShakti
If you haven’t already discovered Eshakti, you’re seriously missing out. Everything on the site is available as is, or can be customized to your specific size. You can even adjust the hem or add/remove sleeves, all for a nominal fee – the dress shown cost $7.50 to customize. There is a huge assortment of styles to choose from, including wedding dresses, and everything is available up to a 36W. Prices are reasonable too!
8. Everlane
You know that Capsule Wardrobe everyone is talking about. You can get most of it right here. The concept behind Everlane is that there is no middleman, so you get amazing quality at very reasonable prices. This is the place to stock up on all your basics – tees, tanks, pants, and now even dresses.
9. DSTLD
DSTLD has a similar concept to Everlane, but with a focus on premium denim. You’ll find amazing jeans with the fabric, washes and details you’d expect of high-end denim, at a fraction of the price. Shipping is free both ways, too, not that you’ll ever want to send anything back!
10. Reformation
These stylish clothes have a secret. They’re ecofriendly and sustainably made, but it’s the pretty trendy styles and soft fabrics that really win me over. Sure, several styles are too bare for most of us, but others are absolutely perfect. Worth checking out!
