I’ve decided to distract myself from this whole exercise thing the way I distract myself from most of the unpleasantness in life. Shopping. And frankly, it’s opened up a whole new world for me. A mostly dull world. Looking ahead at a sea of black yoga pants and boring tees, I was forced to get creative and do some digging. And I made some amazing discoveries. Anthropologie has activewear, you all. Seriously. Also, Kate Hudson has an adorable line of workout clothes called Fabletics. I seriously don’t know why she works out because she already looks amazing, but oh well. At least her clothes are adorable. I also discovered a brand called Lululemon that’s apparently pretty popular. Like I said, a whole new world.
So is walking around with your bra showing a thing? Because usually, I wear shirts, but I’m old fashioned like that. Also, if my bra shows, so does my belly, and that’s the whole reason I’d be working out anyway. If you look good in these outfits, most of which are skimpy and skintight, then you’ve pretty much reached all your exercise goals and you can stop. Maybe relax a little, and have a pastry. Ooh, pastry… Anyway, for the rest of us, there are always tops and jackets and hoodies to cover all of these cute bras. Last bit of editorializing and I’l let you shop. They charge a lot for a little bit of lycra. Thank goodness for Forever 21 and brands like Fabletics, which have all the trendy styles at super reasonable prices. And now, for the shopping. Here, my picks for the girliest, prettiest, most stylish workout clothes for women who don’t wear workout clothes.
Sports Bras
Pretty much every single one of these has a racerback. I never owned a racerback until I bought my first workout outfit two days ago. Judging by all the women on these activewear sites, they make you look all toned and athletic and stuff, and who couldn’t use that? Based on my very limited experience, having used my racerback sports bra exactly once, I will say that a zipper would be nice to have. Getting it on almost counted as my cardio workout, and afterwards I had to relax with a cup of tea.
Pants and Shorts
I’ve never met a floral I didn’t like, and since pretty much every single woman in the country owns a pair of black leggings or black yoga pants, why buy another? Workout leggings, tights and shorts are being treated to the same pretty prints as the rest of our wardrobes, which makes buying them almost tempting.
Sets
Just like in fashion, matched sets are suddenly trendy again, and they have so many advantages when it comes to workout wear. A set instantly makes you look more pulled together, and a single shade helps you look taller, too. Plus, there’s nothing easier than throwing on a complete outfit and not having to worry about mixing and matching.

Tops and Jackets
You’ll need a cute top to cover that cute bra, and there are dozens to choose from. I adore cozy zip front jackets, especially when they’re pink and ruffled, but you can also pick a tee, a sweatshirt or a sweater.
Accessories
It was so comforting to me to know that you could accessorize workout clothes the same way you could other clothes. It really warmed my heart. A cute new clutch or a beautiful yoga mat might tempt me to go from a once a month workout schedule to a more aggressive one, say, every other week.
Now that we’re all suited up in the cutest workout clothes ever, let’s get out there and start working out. After a short nap. I’m worn out from all this shopping!
