By now, you’ve probably heard all about the gorgeous, stylish 32-year-old mom of 3 who made headlines by baring her slightly-imperfect post baby belly. The bold move bought her instant fame and made her an inspiration to other moms everywhere.
Why didn’t I think of that?
I’ll tell you why. Because I prefer to keep my belly under wraps. Call me a coward, but I wear a one piece bathing suit for the same reason I wear concealer under my eyes. Some things are better left unseen. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t hate my belly, but I do feel that my short-torsoed frame looks better with the long unbroken line created by a maillot. And if it also covers a less than toned abdomen and a belly button that has inexplicably developed a post-baby hood, even better. I am old enough now to know what works on my body, and what doesn’t, and I’m confident enough to stay away from the unflattering. And to change my mind. Should fitness week (next week, by the way!) result in a sudden sixpack (a girl can dream!) and I decide I feel truly comfortable in a bikini again, then I might give one another shot. But I’m not holding my breath.
Fortunately, as is the case with flats, there has never been a better time to be shopping for a one piece. There are so many gorgeous, flattering, and (I’m going to say it!) hot options out there, that the link between the one-piece and the mom-suit has been severed forever. Good riddance.
