This week’s stylish mom is April Giannosa, the Chicago-based blogger behind Knocked Up Fabulous. Here, she spills the style secrets behind her famous, often-imitated sense of mom style.
What is your secret to getting dressed on a busy morning?
It’s not much of a secret, but I’m a sucker for planning ahead! For mornings when we need to get dressed and out the door in a hurry, I actually start planning the night before. I have my clothes – and the kids’ clothes – laid out. I make sure my bag is ready. I even wash my hair at night so I just have to give it a quick curl in the morning. Usually I can do my make up in ten minutes, hair in another ten, then I just slip on my clothes.
Name your favorite shops/brands?
I’m a sucker for thrifted and vintage pieces for a number of reasons. Savers and thredUp are both great places to find high-quality clothing (I’m talking top designer stuff too!) for super cheap. Every season I find myself picking up a few new pairs of shoes. DSW and T.J. Maxx have been my favorites recently… they carry great on-trend styles and brands!
How has motherhood changed your style?
Motherhood actually got me thinking about my style! After my oldest was born and my pre-baby body came back, I felt so relieved to feel like myself again! My old clothes just felt so plain and boring. So I revamped and worked on finding my own personal style.
Name 5 things you can’t live without.
This question stumped me, so I had my 5-year-old daughter help. “Air, water, sun, food, and beauty products.” She’s a girl after my own heart!
Do you wear makeup every day? What are your favorite beauty brands?
If I’m leaving the house, I’m wearing makeup! You never know who you’ll run into! I always start with a little Smashbox Photo Finish Primer and then apply Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24H Makeup. Recently, I started using Sonia Kashuk’s gel liner on my eyes and I love it! It stays in place all day long!
Where do you look for fashion inspiration?
I love checking out the site Chictpoia. It’s a fashion site where bloggers from around the world post their outfit pictures. It’s great to see different perspectives of what style means to others.
What is your go-to mom style look?
If it’s cooler out, I usually favor towards some sort of blouse and distressed jeans. But when the weather is nice and warm, I go for dresses.
What is one thing you do every day to pamper yourself?
Umm…does having a glass of wine with dinner count?
If you could only apply one makeup item, what would it be?
Lipstick. It completely transforms my face and makes me look awake! I usually have three different shades in my purse at all times.
Name the one signature accessory you are never seen without.
Recently I’ve been piling on my vintage gold bangles. They layer really nicely and look great with everything!
