I’ve decided to make my new feature, Mother of Style and Substance, run every other week until I get the ball rolling and have a few up my sleeve. : ) Today, there are a few things on my radar, as we kick off spring break. Here they are, in no particular order:
1. Diane von Furstenberg for Gap Kids: Thanks Darlynn for turning me onto this once-in-a-lifetime shopping opportunity. The news of this current collaboration somehow never made it to the rock under which I have been residing. (Is that a sentence?). Anyhow, DVF brings her signature standout prints and stylish silhouettes to budding fashionistas, and I am in love. And it’s selling out as I speak, so go. GO! (After you check out my picks, of course!) Here, my top picks from the collection:
I have the full-sized version of this dress in black. : )
So sweet.
Chic and comfy.
Do these come in my size? Love the print.
Impossibly hip.
2. Seriously Yummy Smoothies: The Junior League of Daytona Beach, of which I am a proud member, hosted our annual Kids in the Kitchen event earlier this month, and I met an incredibly inspirational couple, Omar and Camille Holder Brown, who are spreading the message of healthy (vegan!) eating to children and families in our area through their company/movement, Midtown EcoVillage. Their booth at the event drew legions of interested parents and kids, who stopped to sample their signature smoothies. And for the first time ever, my kids loved a smoothie! After years of trying to get them to sample nutritious smoothies and shakes, this is the first time they have ever liked it. And I don’t blame them. It’s sweet, fruity, and not at all thick or gloppy. Love! Get the recipe and check out the movement by clicking here.
3. Spring!: I am so excited about spring break and getting to spend some fun, down time with the kids! Our plans are simple: trips to the beach and the bowling alley, and an overnight stay in Orlando preceding a first-time visit to Legoland Mostly, just hanging out with friends and family. What could be better. The weather has been glorious – this is my favorite time of the year! Tonight, we had dinner alfresco so we could enjoy the gorgeous weather, and we made it a fun meal: organic tortilla chips and a variety of healthy dips – salsa, Greek yogurt, guacamole… Yum. And lime popsicles for dessert. We also got to check on our organic container garden, and it seems our Roma tomatoes, Sugar Baby watermelons, arugula, and carrots are actually growing! It’s a miracle. I hope I’m not speaking too soon, but I believe this is the first time in my life that I have ever grown anything from a seed. Yeaaa.
