I woke up this morning immediately overwhelmed, facing a schedule that, to me at least, was hectic. Here’s what a particularly busy day in my life looks like:
6:45: Wake up: make breakfast for girls, Hugs (our Maltese) and something for Kevin to take with him
6:55 Lola and Eva come down: give them breakfast in front of the TV
7-7:30: Get Lola fed, dressed, and ready for school
7:30: Kevin comes down after shower, grabs his portable breakfast, and leaves with Lola to take her to school
7:30-9:30: Eva and I eat, get dressed; I clean kitchen, pack up stuff for day
9:30-11: JELLO (a church playgroup) with Eva
11:30-12:30 Little Gym class for Eva
12:30-1:45: Lunch with Eva’s Little Gym friends
1:45: Leave Port Orange to head north to Ormond to pick up Lola with Eva in tow
2:30: Pick up Lola
2:45: Stop at store with the girls to pick up items for the shoot
3:30: French group
4:45: Mad dash to photo shoot, after doing the handoff with Kevin, who has come home early
5:00 Photo shoot on beach for my column, which runs next week
6:30: Return clothes to store after the shoot
7:30 Date night with Kevin
I know that isn’t a particularly hectic day for some people, but for me, it’s a full plate, especially when some of the circumstances are stressful – not enough time built into my schedule for blips, photo shoots are always a little anxiety provoking, a 4 year old who talks nonstop in the car, picking up items for a shoot with both girls in tow.
I am not the type of person who thrives on this, at least not every day, all the time. Fortunately, this isn’t every day. At most, I have a couple of jam-packed days a week, and the others have a little downtime built in. I couldn’t do it any other way. When I do go nonstop, I crash. Like I have the last couple of days. We even cancelled date night tonight. And yet I know many, many women that have far more on their plates than I do, and so I ask you: How do you do it? What are you taking? Is there some secret that no one is sharing with me? On the night before I start a new Bible study, insightfully entitled Saving Supermom, I want to know: How? I don’t have the answer yet, but I intend to find out. I’ll keep you posted. But for now, it’s time to sleep.
