What a weekend! I planned to spend much of it in the house, getting organized, cooking, and getting a head start on what is sure to be a hectic week! Instead, we were blessed with a busy, fun-and-friend-filled weekend, from a beach bash on Friday to dinner with another family at their home last night. This afternoon, after church, the girls and I spent a couple of hours at a Crazy Hat Pool Party before we came home and I crashed. Fortunately, Kevin was home to bathe the girls and help Lola complete the rest of her summer handwriting packet. (Yes, we procrastinated!).
I did manage to make some candy melts with the girls yesterday afternoon, as well as Chocolate Crispies (mix 1/2 cup of melted semisweet choc chips with 1 cup of corn flakes and 1/4 cup of raisins, drop in teaspoons into little candy cups or on a baking sheet, chill for 45 minutes – yummy!) for Lola’s lunch box. I also made a trip to Target where I stocked up on lunchbox essentials, and tonight, we put the girls to bed a bit early (6:30ish instead of 7) because they were up a little last the last two nights, and Lola has a big day tomorrow!
Before bed, she chose which of her uniform pieces she would wear tomorrow (polo shirt, jumper), as well as hair accessories (two felt flower clips, in red and navy, from Etsy crafter Maple Sugar Lane), navy and green ribbon-trimmed white socks (from another Etsy crafter, Sox that Rock), and a navy/pink necklace from Gymboree. I asked her what she wanted for breakfast (cereal, and a cheese stick!).
Parents magazine has a great article this month of online family calendars, and they review Cozi, Jibidee, Homelife, and Plumlife. After reading the descriptions, I decided Cozi would work best for us, and since scheduling is always tricky in a busy family, and since I tend to be disorganized and drive my husband crazy with my last minute commitments, I decided to get a head start on the year by getting us organized. I signed up for Cozi, added our basic info, and even added the girls school schedules.
So, here’s my plan for the morning. Lola needs to be at school no later than 7:45, and it takes about 20 minutes to get there, which means that we need to head out the door 5 minutes before that, so I would like to leave at 7:15 or 7:20. Working backwards from that number, I’ve come up with this schedule:
6:15: I wake up, get dressed, fill milk and water cups, and make breakfast, last minute heating of lunch food (I will do most of lunch prep the night before)
6:45: Wake up Lola, get her dressed in her room, brush hair
7 am: Eva wakes up (on her own), give both the girls milk, water, breakfast
7:10: brush teeth, shoes, backpack, lunch box
7:15: in car
Does this sound like a reasonable schedule? I have no idea how smoothly it will go, or how long each of the steps will take yet. All I know is that I am glad that I am doing this first with easy Lola and not with my touchy Eva. Do you have any suggestions for getting out the door in the morning? Any tips or techniques or rituals?
