Wow! What a whirlwind the last few days have been. My sweet Lola turned 5 today, and I am really in disbelief! I have such vivid memories of her as a sweet little newborn, her tiny pink toes peeking out from the edge of the blanket, and how I just studied them for what seemed like forever. Now her toes are much bigger but still adorable, and her nails are painted blue, thanks to the manicure and beauty station I set up for her slumber party. Yes, a slumber party for a 5 year old and her equally little, cutie-patootie BFFs.
Since Lola is 5 going on 25, she has been asking for a slumber party for years. Last year I complied, sort of, by having her cousins over for a sleepover. This year, though, only a full slumber party would do. So we invited four friends, in addition to her three cousins, and of course her sister Eva, to spend the night. Two of them stayed: Pheona and Adriana.
Lola’s “Spa and Slumber” Party started with manicures, pedicures, and a little glittery makeup. After eating and cake-time, there was more playtime. We had pizza for dinner, and then the girls changed into their PJs to take turns whacking the pinata. Then everyone gathered in the living room for popcorn and hot cocoa while they watched “Tangled.” After the movie, at (very late for us!) 8:30, the girls brushed their teeth and went to “bed.” We had made up their beds in the playroom, and all seemed well until Alexandra decided she wanted to go home. Her mom, my friend Ashley, picked her up at 10. Then Pheona wanted peace and quiet, so we moved her into the library. Finally, at a little after 10, quiet. And it stayed that way until just before 7 in the morning. It’s amazing that none of the girls woke up for a potty break or a hug all night long.
The morning brought more playtime, and a breakfast of fruit and monkey bread, until moms started arriving and the girls slowly started to disperse. They each left with sparkly accessories, sunglasses, and a gift bag of organic glitter makeup from Luna Organics. It was crazy and chaotic and fun! Lola is so lucky to have such wonderful friends, and so am I!
