I have always been a true Anglophile. I LOVE LOVE LOVE England and all the cliches that Americans associate with it. I love tea and royalty and castles and the countryside and the gardens and the writers and the poets and the princesses and the history and everything! I am obsessed. I always thought I would be living in England, and I still have dreams of someday having a cottage in the countryside there, where I would host tea every afternoon for my friends and putter around in my garden. Sigh. So it’s no surprise that a girl who always had dreams of being a princess woke up very early, while visiting my cousin in Indiana 30 years ago, to watch Princess Diana marry Prince Charles. I remember feeling then that the world was wide open, and anything was possible! And I was fully convinced that it was very likely I would either marry a prince or a pop star. It was inevitable. : )
Twenty years later, I did marry my own prince, but unfortunately he came without a title and without a castle. I love him anyway!
So this morning, after my girls woke up, we sat down and watched some of the Royal Wedding together. In my opinion, Kate Middleton can do no wrong. She is pretty and classically, effortlessly elegant and a perfect princess. Her dress, her hair, her veil – it was all flawless! Lola was as excited as I was – I even dressed her in a little Lucy Sykes outfit with an English-garden inspired floral skirt. She wanted to wear a hat like all the royal guests, but removed it before she went to school. The purse, however, stayed with her. Eva chose a hot pink cap that wasn’t exactly royal wedding material, but it matched her little cotton dress and she loved it!
