Everyone knows that I am crazy about kids clothes! Everything just seems to look cuter in a tiny size, and I tend to go a little nuts. Here are some of my secrets for saving on kiddie couture!
1. Flash Sales, Again: They are an amazing source for kids clothing, because the prices are unbeatable! I love Zulily and The Mini Social, but give a thumbs-down to Totsy for their poor customer service.
2. Shop the end of the season sales at high-end boutiques and your favorite catalog sites: Chasing Fireflies, Forget Me Not Kids, and Everything but the Princess have amazing after-Christmas sales, or check Garnet Hill, Mini Boden, Hanna Andersson, Olive Juice…
3. Spend your Money Where it Counts: With kids, as with adults, it pays to put the bulk of your budget on items they will wear all the time. I always buy top-notch shoes (my favorites are by Primigi, Pomme d’Api, and Simonetta), underwear (Petit Bateau or Hanna Andersson), and outerwear, because they get so much use.
4. Reap the Rewards of Store Loyalty: Take advantage of store promotions and sign up for emails from your favorite kiddie retailers. Gymboree, for example, has a rewards program and also an invaluable Gymbucks program. And when you get to know a sales person, they will often help you out by calling you when a sale begins or setting aside sizes for you.
5. Turn to discount stores for playwear: Unless you have several kids, playclothes from Target will hold up fairly well, and you won’t have to worry about them. Save your money for school clothes and church/dress-up clothes.
6. Frequent the Outlets: Outlets tend to get large shipments from certain labels, and so it pays to go often to see the true variety of merchandise. One year I scored big on Baby Sara styles for Lola at Neiman Marcus’ Last Call outlet, and the next year I stocked up on Beetlejuice.
