Five Great Pieces

February 25, 2011 By: Nada Manley1 Comment

My stylish friend Yvonne has a great rule of thumb: If you’re going to spend more than $100 on an item, it needs to work with at least four other pieces in your existing wardrobe. Otherwise, it’s not worth the splurge. So I found five of the most versatile, wearable, wardrobe-extending items for spring, all over $100, and all worth every single penny.

Free People Cream Lace Bomber Jacket, $128: This was the item Yvonne was referring to when she told us about her over $100 rule. I chose it for a recent photo shoot, and we were all amazed at the way it transformed an otherwise ordinary dress into a showstopper. This one little piece has infinite, cute-outfit-creating possibilities. LOVE.

Lacy Lady Pullover, $198: Hang in there with me. I promise not everything on this list is lace, but this stunning, supremely comfortable top belongs in every stylish spring wardrobe. It layers easily over tanks and under jackets, and instantly upgrades an ordinary pair of khakis or your favorite jeans.

Rosette Slingbacks, $118: Every spring deserves its very own pair of ballet flats in a shiny happy color, and these are my pick this spring. Add them to virtually any outfit and see if they don’t make you smile!

Spectator Espadrilles, $138: As essential as a ballet flat on my spring shopping list? A go-to pair of wedges, and this season, these are it. They’re neutral enough to go with everything and jazzy enough to make every outfit extra special.

The Captain Trouser in Sand, $168, from Current/Elliott: Think it’s impossible to find a pair of truly hip khakis? So did I, until I saw these. All of the versatility and comfort of your favorite pair of pants, with a major injection of style.

Nada I love the items you picked. You know I am a huge fan of flats and I think I might need to go out and purchase these.
My four items id wear it with:
    1) cropped jeans with a nice zipper detail on the bottom and a black v-neck shirt
    2)Sundress
3)Black dress with a nice statemen necklace
4)Skinny Jeans and a cardigan with maybe a pearl type of bracelet.
