My Closet Chronicles, Part II

October 19, 2010 By: Nada Manleycomment

Yes, yes, I know I promised, but all day today I have been kicking msyelf because I committed not only to sharing my closet-clearing process with the world, but also to sharing the horrific before pictures. Please do not judge me too harshly. The rest of my house DOES NOT look like this. I am a reformed messy person, struggling every day to stay on top of all the junk that seems to accumulate in a busy household, and I’ve been doing a decent job, most days. I have managed to keep piles off of my desk, clutter off of my ktichen counter, and bags and assorted junk away from my back door. (More on how I managed to almost overcome decades of innate messiness in a future blog!) My closet is one of the last areas that I need to tackle, and it’s one of the biggest. So, as promised, here are the embarassing pictures of my closet, as it looks right now!

The long shot of my half of the closet. Two sections of dresses, and at the back, shirts on top, bottoms on the bottom. I also have two dressers, the front one that you see, and the one at the back which has two double sets of drawers going across.

Shorts, casual pants, and jeans, many of which are dated or don’t fit properly. One of the first items on my give-away list: a pair of Frankie B. dark trouser jeans which have never fit me, even when I was at my skinniest.

My junk of a jewelry drawer. I have two, but I can’t find the magnetic gizmo that opens the second drawer. Need to relocate that pronto. Everything is a jumpled mess and I have many, many mismatched pairs of earrings in there! Yes, those are hot pink fingerless gloves – remnants from an 80s party a couple of weeks ago.

I keep mostly sweaters on these shelves, which doesn’t work at all because they always look messy and when I do get them neat, I mess them up the moment I pull out a sweater. The two shelves above the dresses are usually empty, or almost. Maybe I can put my handbags there. I am not much of a handbag person, so I don’t have a ton of them. That hat is from our wedding rehearsal dinner.

Shoes, glorious shoes! Too bad I can’t get to them with all of the toys hidden away on the floor! Lola was in here this morning and didn’t even notice them, but I know my luck is going to run out soon. These need to be moved to the overstuffed toy/gift closet!
