As those of you who have been following my blog will know, I have been purging my closet with the help of my stylist friend, Yvonne. On Friday we tackled sweaters and dresses. You will notice that many of the same layering pieces come up again and again, as do shoes, belts, and even my favorite AG jeans. Yesterday I posted pics of some of the sweater ideas, and today I have even more ideas on how to rework your sweaters and cardigans to make them look new and fresh for fall!
Look #1: I bought this cardigan because I loved the color and the print, but feared that it was too old for me, so we glammed it up with a cute camisole and cinched the waist with a belt. Shown: Isaac Mizrahi for Target cardigan, BCBG tank, Coach black leather belt, AG Stilt jeans, and Nine West flats.
Look #2: This cardigan used to be a favorite, but it had ended up in the back of my sweater pile. We updated it for fall. Shown: Blush (Anthropologie) cardigan, BCBG tank, J. Brand metallic copper jeans, Tracy Reese pumps (for night) and Maloles flats (for day).
I thought this cashmere cardigan had potential, but couldn’t make the tricky one-button closure look flattering. We cinched it with a belt to give it some shape. Shown: Joe’s Jeans cardigan, Liberty of London for Target romper (from the kids department – hee hee), gold braided leather belt (I’ve had this for years – noticed we looped it around instead of buckling it!), and Miu Miu flats.
I loved this pretty, pale-pink-sequin-striped cardigan, but needed a new way to wear it. Shown: Moschino cardigan, J. Crew tank, William Rast “Rachel” jeans, Miu Miu flats
I love this Missoni cardigan that I bought in Italy, but wanted a fresh take on it. Shown: Missoni sheer striped cardigan, Michael Stars shine tank, In the Now cream jersey a-line skirt, Frye gold wedges, and a strand of pearls.
I used to wear this short-sleeved cardigan over a dress during my pregnancy, and it’s been sitting unloved ever since. Nick & Mo cardigan, Ella Moss tunic dress, Frye gold wedges, Erwin Pearl turquoise necklace.
I haven’t worn this cardigan in a while, so I had to find new pieces to go with it! Shown: Dolce & Gabbana cardigan, J. Crew tank, BCBG skinny stretch cream pants, Betsey Johnson necklace, Nine West flats (for day) and Tracy Reese pumps (for night)
I bought this sweater during a mod phase and quickly grew tired of it. The skinny pants give it a whole new look. Shown: Moth for Anthropologie sweater, BCBG stretch skinny cream pants, Miu Miu flats, and pearl and gold bead necklace (purchased on the street in NYC).
I used to wear this button neck sweater all buttoned-up, and since it doesn’t get that cold in Florida, I didn’t wear it often. Unbuttoning it gives it a more laid back feel and makes it easier to wear in this climate. Shown: Moth for Anthropologie sweater, Hollister faded black “jeggings”
