Coordinating Holiday Clothes for All of Your Kids, Part 1

October 11, 2010 By: Nada Manley2 Comments

When my friend Aimee saw my list of brother/sister outfits, she said that, although she loved the boys’ options, she needed to find something even her 15 year old son would wear. Okay, that’s a tough one: to find coordinating Christmas attire for a 4 year old girl, a 7 year old boy and a 15 year old boy. Fortunately, I love challenges, so I am going to give it my best shot. Here, four options for kids of all ages. Check back for part two, tomorrow, when I will attempt to mix it up a little by finding something that doesn’t involve plaid. : )

1. Ralph Lauren Christmas Plaids: Okay, they aren’t actually called Christmas plaids, but I love the cozy, all-American aura of Ralph Lauren, especially for the holidays. And the fact that the entire site is 25% off today only, with 10% of the discount going to charity, is an even bigger draw. This Winslet tartan plaid dress is just adorable, and big brothers should feel right at home in their own white shirts and navy pants, spruced up with a dapper tartan tie. Dad can also choose one of several tartan ties, or try this classic sweater, while moms might choose the Shandy ruffle shirt, a definite splurge at $355, but a showstopper she can wear for years. If one were to throw an older sister into the mix, she’d shine in the adorable Sandra dress. If you are willing to push your luck a little, then the absolutely gorgeous Snowflake dress would be so sweet on any little girl. The only potential problem? Getting her brothers to agree to snowflake sweaters. White and black outfits would be an acceptable alternative for the boys, though not nearly as exciting.

2. Burberry: A couple of years ago, a week or so after Eva was born, we took our Christmas picture in front of the tree, similarly attired in Burberry. I still treasure that picture. Yes, it’s pricey (why is all the cute, classic stuff so expensive!) but it’s so timeless, that you are guaranteed to love the pictures years from now. The most reasonably priced option is to choose a darling little kilt for your daughter, and a check-collar long-sleeved polo shirt for the boys. The shift kilt dress is so adorable, though a little pricier at $180. Of course you might find Burberry bargains on Ebay!

3. Hanna Andersson: This site offers easy, affordable options the entire family, like the Snow & Mistletoe smocked dress for girls, a steal at $35 (hurry – prices go up October 24!) and the plaid flannel shirts for boys. If you skip the sweater vest, they won’t have much to object to in the straightforward black plaid. The Hip for the Holidays collection offers modern options that aren’t too matchy-matchy, such as a simple, two-color dress for girls, $25, and a cotton v-neck sweater for boys in solids with contrasting trim, $30. All three kids would be coordinated and comfortable for less than $100. A final option? The Storyteller plaid shirt for boys, $36, and the sweater dress for girls from the same collection, $45. And all of these collections offer options for mom and dad, too.
4. Papo d’Anjo: Papo d’Anjo offers classic, exquisitely made clothes for kids, and their holiday collection is truly breathtaking, if pricey. I especially love the Scottish Tartan Box Pleat Dress, $158, with the coordinating ties, $38, for big brothers. I also love the glowing cotton velvet collection, like the double breasted dress, $128, and the party dress with lace collar, both in navy or red, $148. Boys look smart in matching navy velvet blazers, $158. The Scottish Tartan Kilt in Purple Plaid is adorable, at $99, and so are the coordinating button-down collared shirts for boys, $59. The too-cute purple velvet pinafore dress with top, $119, would also work with the purple plaid collection. The Austrian flannel pieces in brown or green plaid are a more rustic option, offering button-front long sleeved dresses for girls, $58, and flannel shirts for boys, $38.

Thanks Aimee! So glad you liked them. If you hated plaid, it would have been a real problem. : ) Check back tonight for a few more ideas, and let me know what you decide. I’d love to see a picture!
