Since Lola goes to Temple Israel, she is required to bring only meat-free (dairy) lunches. It’s so hard to come up with new, creative ideas and to make sure she gets something substantial and a little bit of protein. Unfortunately, Lola doesn’t like peanut butter or almond butter. Today, I got lucky because my mother had made some vegan cabbage rolls for my sister-in-law, and we had some left over. So today Lola’s lunch included:
3 vegan cabbage rolls
1 organic pear
1 hard boiled egg with tiny packet of salt
1 organic yogurt tube
1 package of organic fruit gummies (Shark)
1 carton of organic 2% milk
1 bag of Popumz multigrain snacks
Fortunately, this year she only has lunch at school one day a week, for fun, but I could still use some more ideas. Do any of you have the same issue? What do you pack for school lunches. Here are some of my favorite ideas, so far:
Carrot sticks
Clif Twisted Fruit Rope
Annie’s Homegrown Snack Bunnies Mix
Annie’s Homegrown Mac and cheese
String Cheese
Whole grain crackers and slices of cheddar cheese
Fruit
Edamame with a sprinkle of sea salt
Raisins or other dried fruit
Nuts, especially pistachios and almonds
Small bags of Ian’s Cookie Buttons
Trail Mix that I make at home using organic cereals, nuts and dried fruit
